Whassup, homies?
So it’s like this: I’m really super excited about my Aebelskiver {Ebelskiver} pan. And I learned about it from you! Here.
But don’t buy one.
We’re on a Shoestring here {duh}, in case you hadn’t noticed {ah doy}.
And you don’t need to buy yet another pan.
Except that you can score one pretty cheap at Amazon.com. And if you buy some Better Batter all-purpose gluten-free flour while you’re there, you’ll hit the $25 “free super saver shipping” deal. Get it delivered free. No biggie.
But don’t buy it. Buying this pan is for suckers.
Don’t mind the fact that tomorrow, I’m going to share a recipe for ebelskivers both sweet & savory {it involves some super basic batter with some beaten egg whites} {big whoop}. And the fact that you don’t need those recipes, since you can just make yourself some mini quiches using a basic crustless quiche.
Whatevs.
See you tomorrow.
I love you.

P.S. – Can someone remind me what these sort of things are called in other cultures? It’s not just the Danes that make these puffy little things. I think there’s an Asian pan of similar use. And maybe an Italian one? I can’t remember. You all told me on Facebook, but I can’t remember. And I am having a private temper tantrum about Facebook right now, which could be why I have blocked out what I learned there. I love you. I just don’t love Facebook. Don’t hate me.

I have an idli pan, from south india, that makes little round cakes but it is used in a steamer and has little holes in each dip
Hi, Lois,
That sounds awesome! I googled and came up with something like this: http://harmonycure.com/idlycooker.htm They don’t seem to be too available. Amazon.com doesn’t have a good showing. Thank you for the information!

I have an aebleskiver pan, and it hasn’t been used in ages. I wonder whether I need to try and deep-clean it before using it for gf recipes?
Hi, Ulrike,
Yes, I would definitely give that pan a deep clean before using it for gluten-free cooking. It’s not the sort of pan that has a lot of crevices, so I think it should be fine after a good bath. Check back tomorrow for the recipes!

Takoyaki or breaded octopus they also sell electric cookers for these. A good place to look is jbox
Hi, Miranda,
Takoyaki! That’s definitely one of the ones that was mentioned on Facebook. Thank you! jobx looks like an awesome site. Now I want an electric takoyaki pan! I would make all kinds of things in there…. http://www.jbox.com/search/all/takoyaki
Thank you again for posting that info!

lol check out the fish shaped one! Im excited too! I have a pan but no usable recipes . I will now thank you! http://www.jbox.com/product/NET749
Oh, no, Miranda! That fish pan is definitely for suckers! Except it’s electric. And I really am into electric appliances these days. But not ones so much that make fish-shaped food. Except I kinda want it anyway. See? I’m really torn. You are welcome, in advance. :)

I actually got pretty snotty with a lady at Williams Sonoma who seriously could not understand why I didn’t want to spend over $40 on an Aebelskiver pan. Seriously. I found one at Target the next day (in the cheesy As Seen On TV section) for $10. It works perfectly. But I haven’t used it since my Celiac diagnosis, so thanks SO much for the recipes!
Hi, Elizabeth,
That cheesy as seen on TV section (which I don’t think I’ve ever seen at Target, & now must watch out for) always has some very important products! I like it most when they have a little TV on the shelf with one of the infomercials running. As seen on TV – right now! Enjoy the return of aebelskivers!

isnt it the same as the as seen on tv pancake puff pan?
Did order the pan from Amazon.com as you suggested and picked up Better Batter flour special ordered by my local Whole Foods store. So, tomorrow, finally, I get to make these. Can’t wait! Thank you so much for telling us about these little delightful finger foods. One of my favorite things, finger foods. No fuss eating. And I feel like I’m getting a special treat. Either a stuffed mini hot-pocket or a filled donut hole. Wow. I wanna hug you. Or add you to my will. xxx
Hi Tammy,
I can’t believe you were able to have Whole Foods order Better Batter for you. Well done! The price is really so much better if you order it from Better Batter’s own website (and in a larger quantity), if you like it and want more.
Mini hot pocket sounds gooood. This is a great pan for making filled donut holes. Jelly donut holes make me weak in the knees.
Let’s hug. Let’s go for it.
xoxo Nicole
