NFCA’s Blogger-A-Day for Celiac Awareness

See? See how they’re celebrating May as Celiac Awareness Month? See? This is how. Well, part of how.

It’s their Blogger-A-Day Campaign for May. With me, bringing up the rear.

Stop looking at my rear. It’s embarrassing. Notice that my picture over there in the sidebar doesn’t show my rear? There’s a reason for that. I’m not sure what it is, but there is one. No one will tell it to me. Do you know the reason?

Save the best for last? That’s what I keep telling myself.

Do you know what the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness is? For real. Do you? It’s okay if you don’t. You can tell me. I won’t poke fun. For real.

They really have a ton of really useful information & resources. And they’re easily the most visible of the celiac organizations, & if I want up-to-date information on an issue, I turn to the NFCA’s Website. Check out their Resources Page for some truly useful … resources. Scroll down on that page to “Everyday Living” for a printable guide about “Entertaining Gluten-Free Guests.” If there is anyone in your life who is generous enough to offer to cook for you gluten-free, you both need this guide.

So who is the NFCA?

The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA to you) “was formed as a national 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization to raise awareness of celiac disease among the general public and the healthcare community, and to facilitate research to better understand the causes, mechanisms, and treatment of celiac disease.”

Really. Their Website says so.

This year, you know the NFCA is working on increasing awareness of celiac disease and its related illnesses {duh}. But did you know that they’re also working on:
• Safer gluten-free food, through industry initiatives and Gluten-Free Resource Education and Awareness Training (GREAT)
• Smarter doctors, through CeliacCMECentral.com {to teach primary care providers the ins, outs and most up-to-date information about celiac disease and the gluten-free diet}
• Real answers through Ask the Dietitian
• Important news in the community with daily posts on news feeds and blogs, and regular posting on Facebook and Twitter. Their monthly e-newsletter is a can’t miss, with columns, articles, recipes, product reviews and news. Don’t forget the new Celiac Stat of the Month email, with a striking statistic and personal story to keep the conversation going
• More FUN, with events like the Celiac Awareness Night at the Phillies this July. {hey, my husband & son are big Phillies fans, so some respec’, even if you’re not a fan}.

So I like fun, and safe gluten-free foods, better smarter doctors, & important news.

How about you?

Tomorrow, tune in as we return to our regularly scheduled recipe programming. Next episode: I have 1 word for you: Chocolate. Thumbprint. Cookies. I’m eating one right now. You have to wait for yours.

xoxo
Nicole
