Moneysaving Tip: Dress Up the Basics

Iced Tea

Iced Tea

Moneysaving Tip

I am forever in search of new ways to take basic things and dress them up for the ball.  Like plain old WATER.

My kids think they have won the lottery if I make some herbal tea — unsweetened — and let it cool to room temperature or pop it in the ice box and serve it chilled.  I can make 4 or 5 cups of iced tea with one herbal tea bag, and if the water is hot enough and it steeps long enough (about 5 minutes), it’s a deep dark color & so good they’re begging for more (which, come to think of it, is kind of annoying — just ignore the begging).

You can also take any citrus fruit (I usually use organges when they’re cheap, like now), give it a good scrub, slice it razor thin with the peel on, place the slices in a water pitcher and fill it with tap water.  You don’t need anything else.  Just let the pitcher sit for a few hours and the water is lightly sweet & delicious.  Perfect for a summer afternoon.

Naturally GF, naturally inexpensive, costs just pennies.  My favorite combination!

Warmly,
Nicole
